After making starts out of the middle infield in each of the Blue Jays' last eight games, the left-handed-hitting Gimenez will retreat to the bench while the Rays send southpaw Ian Seymour to the bump. Toronto will go with Davis Schneider at second base and Ernie Clement at shortstop Wednesday.

Gimenez will start at shortstop and bat ninth in Friday's game versus the Orioles.
Analyse
Gimenez has played six innings at shortstop this season, but this will be his first start at the position since 2022. It's possible he could play the position more regularly down the stretch while Bo Bichette (knee) is sidelined.
