Ruled out for Sunday
Markkanen (illness) won't play Sunday against the Thunder.

An illness will force Markkanen to miss his first game of the season Sunday, but with Utah's next game not coming until Friday in Memphis, Markkanen will have plenty of time to rest up. With the Jazz's star unavailable Sunday evening, Keyonte George and Ace Bailey should see a sizeable uptick in usage, and there will be more minutes available for Kevin Love, Kyle Filipowski and Kyle Anderson.

Markkanen (illness) has been downgraded to questionable for Sunday's game against the Thunder, Andy Larsen of The Salt Lake Tribune reports.

Scores 18 points in blowout loss
Markkanen finished with 18 points (5-13 FG, 2-6 3Pt, 6-6 FT), nine rebounds and two assists over 26 minutes during Friday's 146-112 blowout loss to the Knicks.

Markkanen struggled with his shot in this one, and with the Jazz getting blown out, he took a seat on the bench late in the third quarter and did not return to the game for the fourth quarter. Markkanen could have a tough time bouncing back Sunday, with a difficult matchup against the Thunder.

Markkanen tallied 30 points (11-18 FG, 2-5 3Pt, 6-6 FT), eight rebounds and one assist over 35 minutes during Utah's 123-110 win over Brooklyn on Thursday.

Markkanen helped Utah close things out with 10 fourth-quarter points, and his performance Thursday marked the ninth time this season that the veteran forward has scored 30-plus points in a game. He is off to a terrific start to the 2025-26 regular season, averaging a career-high 28.1 points along with 6.4 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 3.0 threes and 0.9 steals over 35.5 minutes per game. Markkanen will look to carry his momentum into the second leg of the Jazz's back-to-back set Friday against the Knicks.

Leads offensive attack
Markkanen notched 29 points (9-17 FG, 2-3 3Pt, 9-11 FT), eight rebounds and one steal in 37 minutes during Monday's 133-125 victory over the Rockets.

Markkanen paced the Jazz on the offensive end by pouring in 29 points, his best effort since Nov. 18. He also posted a solid night on the boards, but as has been the trend lately, he didn't make much of an impact defensively. Markkanen has been held without a block or steal in four straight appearances.
