Vodnik picked up the save in Saturday's 10-7 win over the Diamondbacks. He struck out one over a perfect inning.

It's notable that Juan Mejia tossed a scoreless eighth inning for a hold, which suggests Vodnik is at least slightly ahead of Mejia in the bullpen pecking order while Seth Halvorsen (elbow) is on the injured list. Vodnik didn't record a strikeout in a perfect ninth inning Wednesday to earn the save in a 6-5 win over St. Louis.

With Seth Halvorsen (elbow) sidelined, the 25-year-old Vodnik looks to be the preferred ninth-inning option for Colorado, despite coming into the day with a 9.00 ERA in his previous eight innings. Overall, Vodnik sports a 3.72 ERA with a 1.54 WHIP and 38 strikeouts through 36.1 innings this season.

Vodnik allowed one hit and struck out three across 1.2 scoreless innings to earn the save Tuesday against the Cardinals.

Vodnik took over for starter Kyle Freeland in the eighth inning with runners on first and second, but he struck out both of the batters he faced to get out of the inning. He then had a routine ninth inning to earn his third save of the season. This was Colorado's first converted save since Seth Halvorsen (elbow) landed on the 15-day injured list, so Vodnik appears to be the team's top choice to handle closer duties. His ability to hang onto the role should be in question, however, as he has allowed at least one earned run in five of his last eight appearances.
