Mahle (1-8) allowed four runs on four hits and three walks while striking out three over 4.1 innings to take the loss Monday versus the Diamondbacks.

Mahle looked good in his return from a month-long absence due to a hamstring injury last week versus the Athletics, but he couldn't repeat the effort. Due to the injury, he's faced the Diamondbacks in three of his last four games, allowing a total of 13 runs over 14.1 innings against them. For the season, he has a 5.67 ERA, 1.47 WHIP and 64:29 K:BB through 66.2 innings over 13 starts. Mahle will probably have a hard time getting back on track over the weekend in a tough road matchup in Colorado.

He was pretty good in his return, throwing 44 of 70 pitches for strikes, but the Giants didn't get on the board until the ninth inning, leaving him with a no-decision. On the year, Mahle has a 5.49 ERA, 1.46 WHIP and 61:26 K:BB over 62.1 innings across 12 starts. The veteran right-hander's time off while injured could help him reset after his poor form to begin the campaign. He is lined up to make his next start on the road in Arizona.

Back from IL, starting Wednesday
The Giants reinstated Mahle (hamstring) from the 15-day injured list ahead of his start Wednesday against the Athletics in San Francisco.

Before being shelved May 29 due to a left hamstring strain, the 31-year-old posted a 6.04 ERA, 1.54 WHIP and 57:24 K:BB in 56.2 innings. Tristan Beck was optioned to Triple-A Sacramento to make room on the active roster for Mahle, who could be operating with a workload restriction in his return to the rotation after covering three innings and tossing 63 pitches in his lone rehab start with Sacramento last week.
