Rejoining lineup Monday
France (wrist) will start at first base and bat fifth in Monday's game against the Cubs.

France didn't start in either of the final two games of the Padres' weekend series versus the Dodgers while he dealt with a sore wrist, but he was able to come off the bench to make a pinch-hitting appearance in Sunday's 4-2 loss. Though he was hit by a pitch in his lone trip to the plate, France stayed in the game and went on to play the final inning at first base. He'll now rejoin the starting nine for the series opener in Chicago and will look to continue what's been a productive offensive run of late. Over his last eight games, France has gotten on base at a .407 clip while mashing four home runs and two doubles and driving in 10 runs.

Enters off bench Sunday
France (wrist) was hit by a pitch after entering as a pinch hitter in the eighth inning of Sunday's 4-2 loss to the Dodgers.

France hasn't started since being struck on the wrist by a Roki Sasaki fastball Friday. The veteran infielder had X-rays this weekend that returned negative, and manager Craig Stammen has said that France isn't expected to need a stint on the injured list. That notion was supported Sunday when France entered the contest as a replacement for Gavin Sheets. France got beaned again in that plate appearance -- this time on the left elbow -- but didn't appear to be in any pain and ran the bases before finishing the game on defense at first base. France could return to the starting lineup as soon as Monday's series opener in Chicago against the Cubs.

Not in Sunday's lineup
France (wrist) is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Dodgers.

France is sitting for a second consecutive game after being hit by a pitch in the wrist during Friday's contest. The first baseman already had X-rays come back negative and isn't expected to require an IL stint, so it's possible he's available off the bench Sunday.

X-rays on wrist negative
France, who was hit in the wrist by a pitch against the Dodgers on Friday, had X-rays return negative, but he's out of Saturday's lineup, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports.

France was nailed in the wrist by a Roki Sasaki fastball in the fourth inning Friday. The veteran infielder initially stayed in the game but was then replaced by Miguel Andujar at first base in the ninth inning. The good news for France is that X-rays returned negative, but he's nonetheless beginning on the bench for Saturday's matchup. Manager Craig Stammen said Saturday that France isn't looking at an IL stint, and the infielder will be available off the bench for the evening contest, so it doesn't sound like he is dealing with a serious injury.

Provides early offense with homer
France went 1-for-2 with a three-run home run, a walk and a hit-by-pitch in Friday's 7-1 win over the Dodgers.

France's second-inning blast answered a solo shot from Mookie Betts in the top of that same frame. This was France's second straight game with a homer, and four of his 10 long balls this year have come over his last seven games. For the season, the first baseman is batting .255 with an .810 OPS, 29 RBI, 20 runs scored, one stolen base, seven doubles and two triples over 179 plate appearances. As long as his bat is hot, France should be in the lineup most of the time.

Goes deep Wednesday
France went 2-for-3 with a solo home run, a double, a second RBI and two total runs scored in Wednesday's 5-2 win over Atlanta.
Анализ
France has three homers and eight RBI over his last eight games despite going a modest 7-for-28 (.250) in that span. The veteran infielder has seen most of the playing time at first base lately while Gavin Sheets primarily competes with Samad Taylor for starts in left field. France is batting .252 on the year and has added a .782 OPS, nine homers, 26 RBI, 19 runs scored, seven doubles, two triples and a stolen base over 175 plate appearances.
