Per Fletcher, the Angels are viewing Schanuel as day-to-day due to a tight left calf, an injury that had been bothering him on and off throughout the season before he suffered an aggravation during a defensive play at first base in Saturday's 5-2 win. Schanuel drove in a run on a double in the bottom of the fifth inning -- RBI No. 24 for the first baseman this season -- but he appeared to pull up while jogging into second base. The Angels are off Monday and it would not be a surprise to see Schanuel held out through the off day at the very least, especially with a left-hander in MacKenzie Gore (lat) tentatively expected to start for Texas in the series finale.

Analysis
Fletcher points out that Schanuel appeared to pull up while running into second base on his RBI double in the bottom of the fifth inning, indicating some sort of lower-body issue. Schanuel stayed in the game initially but was then replaced at first base by Vaughn Grissom before the top of the seventh.

Schanuel went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in an extra-inning loss to the Athletics on Thursday.
Analysis
Schanuel helped the Angels get off to a promising beginning with a two-run homer to right field in the first inning. However, that ended up being the team's only runs -- and the first baseman's only hit -- in the contest. Schanuel surprised when he went deep twice in his first three games of the campaign, but he's since hit just two long balls over 44 contests, with Thursday's home run snapping a 23-game homerless stretch. He ranks in the bottom 10 percent leaguewide in barrel rate and bat speed, so there's no reason to believe he'll suddenly morph into a power hitter.
