Grabs five-out save

Vasil picked up the save Sunday against the Giants, allowing one walk and no hits with one strikeout over 1.2 scoreless innings.

Analysis

Vasil has been a multi-inning option for the White Sox recently, going at least three innings in each of his last seven appearances (three starts). However, he got the ball in a high-leverage scenario Sunday, taking over for Tyler Gilbert in the eighth inning with one out and the bases loaded. Vasil induced a double play to escape from the jam and then shut the door on the Giants in the ninth frame for his second save of the campaign. Vasil's been one of the White Sox's most reliable arms this season, holding a 2.73 ERA over 56 innings.

Takes loss in bulk relief

Vasil (3-3) took the loss Tuesday against the Diamondbacks, allowing two runs (one earned) on three hits and no walks while striking out one in 5.1 innings.

Analysis

Vasil was very efficient out of the bullpen after the White Sox went with an opener. He needed just 54 pitches to complete five scoreless innings but was pulled in the seventh after the Diamondbacks put two on with one out, leading to a three-run frame. It was a career-long effort from Vasil, who's now pitched at least three innings in seven straight outings. Vasil lowered his ERA to a 2.82 across 54.1 innings and has been effective as a long reliver for the majority of the season.

Could work in bulk relief Tuesday

Vasil is a candidate to serve as a bulk reliever behind opening pitcher Jordan Leasure in Tuesday's game against the Diamondbacks, Jack Ankony of SI.com reports.

Analysis

After opening the season in the White Sox bullpen, Vasil has started in each of his last three appearances, covering 11 innings and allowing eight earned runs on 14 hits and six walks while striking out 11. The rookie right-hander is expected to move back into a more traditional relief role once Jonathan Cannon (back) returns from the injured list, but Vasil will likely be called upon to cover multiple innings out of the bullpen Tuesday once Leasure exits the contest. Tyler Alexander will also be available Tuesday on three days' rest and could be another candidate to cover multiple frames in relief, if needed.
