Needs another rehab start

Mets manager Carlos Mendoza said Friday that Senga (spine/arm) will require at least one more minor-league rehab start before the organization considers activating him from the 15-day injured list, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.

Analysis

The right-hander had his rehab outing pushed back early this week due to ulnar nerve irritation in his right arm, but he was able to take the mound with Double-A Binghamton on Thursday and gave up just one run across six innings. Senga built up to 75 pitches in that start, so he's already most of the way to a full starting workload and could re-enter the Mets' rotation with another solid showing in the minor leagues.

Allows one hit in rehab start

Senga (spine/arm) allowed one run on one hit and a walk while striking out five batters over six innings in Thursday's rehab start with Double-A Binghamton, Michael Mayer of MetsmerizedOnline.com reports.

Analysis

Senga was on the mound for the fourth start of his minor-league rehab assignment, toeing the rubber two days later than initially expected after a flare up of ulnar nerve irritation in his right arm earlier in the week. The right-hander delivered his best performance of the rehab assignment, tossing 51 of his 75 total pitches for strikes. The Mets will likely wait and see how Senga's body responds to Thursday's workload before deciding what the next steps are in his recovery.

Resuming assignment Thursday

Senga (spine/arm) will resume his rehab assignment at Double-A Binghamton on Thursday, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.

Analysis

Senga was originally slated to make his fourth rehab appearance Tuesday but was scratched due to ulnar nerve irritation. Now seemingly past the issue, he'll return to minor-league action Thursday and continue his journey back from lumbar spine inflammation, which has kept him on the injured list since late April. It's unknown how close Senga is to returning to the Mets' rotation, though a strong showing Thursday would likely go a long way toward shortening his stay on the IL.

Scratched from rehab start

Senga (spine) will not make his scheduled rehab start with Double-A Binghamton on Tuesday due to ulnar nerve irritation in his right arm, Will Sammon of The Athletic reports.

Analysis

Senga had been slated for his fourth rehab outing as he works his way back from lumbar spine inflammation, but now he has a new injury to deal with. The Mets have not revealed a timeline for when Senga might be ready to pitch again, but this is likely a significant setback. Senga has been shelved since late April.

Lacks control in third rehab start

Senga (spine) struck out five and allowed three earned runs on six hits and two walks across five innings in a rehab start Wednesday with Triple-A Syracuse.

Analysis

Though Senga was able to build up to 91 pitches (54 strikes) during the third start of his rehab assignment, his control once again left something to be desired. In addition to issuing the two free passes, Senga hit two batters and threw two wild pitches. Overall, Senga has turned in a 5.25 ERA and 1.58 WHIP over 12 innings between his two starts with Syracuse and one with Single-A St. Lucie, so he'll likely need to show some better results during his rehab assignment before the Mets consider activating him from 15-day injured list and adding him to the big-league rotation. Per MLB.com, Senga is expected to make his next rehab start Tuesday with Double-A Binghamton.
