Scratched Tuesday
Gilbert was scratched from the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Pirates, Justice delos Santos of The San Jose Mercury News reports.
Analysis
It's unknown why Gilbert was taken out of the lineup, but the Giants should offer an explanation in the near future. In the meantime, Jonah Cox will start in center field and bat fourth.

Belts eighth homer
Gilbert went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and an additional RBI in a 6-1 victory over the Diamondbacks on Thursday.
Analysis
Gilbert led off the Giants' half of the first inning with a 407-foot solo shot to right-center field. He added a sacrifice fly in the fifth inning to snap a 1-1 tie. The 25-year-old has gone 5-for-12 over his past four games, with four of his knocks (three doubles and a homer) during that span going for extra bases. Gilbert hasn't started either of San Francisco's past two games against a lefty starter, so he appears locked into the strong side of a center-field platoon.

Idle against southpaw
Gilbert is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Reds, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
Analysis
With southpaw Nick Lodolo toeing the rubber for the Reds, Gilbert will head to the bench along with fellow left-handed batters Nate Furman, Jung Hoo Lee (elbow) and Drew Cavanaugh. Jonah Cox will spell Gilbert in center field and will bat leadoff.
