Delivers quality start Friday
Paddack (0-2) took the loss Friday as the Marlins fell 2-0 to the Tigers, allowing two runs on seven hits and a walk over six innings. He struck out four.
Analysis
It was the best outing so far this season for Paddack, who tossed 65 of 96 pitches for strikes but got no run support. The veteran right-hander is still climbing out of the hole he dug when he served up eight runs in his Miami debut, and through three starts and 14.2 innings he carries a 6.14 ERA, 1.57 WHIP and 14:5 K:BB. Paddack will look for his first win of 2026 in his next outing, which lines up to come on the road next week in Atlanta.

Better in bulk role
Paddack did not factor into the decision Sunday, allowing one unearned run on three hits and four walks across 4.2 innings in relief against the Yankees. He struck out four.
Analysis
The Marlins elected to use an opener ahead of Paddack on Sunday after he gave up eight runs in four innings in his season debut against the White Sox. It certainly appeared to be the right decision, as Paddack held the Yankees to a lone unearned run, despite having some trouble with his command. It remains to be seen if the Marlins will utilize Paddack as a traditional starter or in a bulk role in his next outing, tentatively scheduled for next week in Detroit.

Following opener Sunday
Paddack won't start as scheduled Sunday against the Yankees but is expected to follow opener Pete Fairbanks, Isaac Azout of FishOnFirst.com reports.
Analysis
Fairbanks, who is Miami's closer, will instead start Sunday before stepping away from the club for a few days while on the paternity list. Paddack's fantasy outlook shouldn't change much as a result of the switch. He's looking for a bounce-back performance after surrendering eight runs during his season debut.
