Homers in loss

Chaparro went 3-for-4 with a solo home run and double in Wednesday's 13-1 loss to the Rockies.

Analysis

Chaparro started his first game at third base Wednesday and made the most of it in the second-inning with a homer. The Nationals are trying to get Chaparro's bat into the lineup everyday with CJ Abrams occupying the designatedhitter role while recovering from a sprained ankle. Since the All-Star break, Chaparro has a 1.131 OPS with eight home runs, 18 runs, and 26 RBI in 30 games.

Missing from lineup again Tuesday

Chaparro is absent from the lineup for Tuesday's contest against the Rockies.

Analysis

Chaparro has now been out of the lineup for two straight games and three of the past four tilts. CJ Abrams is getting another day at designated hitter for the Nationals.

Hitting bench Monday

Chaparro is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Rockies.

Analysis

Chaparro has begun to gain traction as an everyday player, but the Nationals won't have room in the lineup for him Monday while CJ Abrams is limited to serving as the team's designated hitter after a sprained ankle kept him on the bench for the previous four contests. So long as Abrams is able to resume duties in the middle infield in short order, Chaparro's playing-time outlook should remain favorable over the final month of the season.

Earning more starts versus righties

Chaparro will start at first base and bat seventh in Sunday's game against the Marlins.

Analysis

Since being called up from Triple-A Rochester on May 19, Chaparro has largely served as a short-side platoon player for the Nationals, but he's begun to gain traction in the lineup versus right-handed pitching. He'll crack the starting nine against a righty for the third time in four games, and on the season he sports a 1.127 OPS with three homers in 35 plate appearances in that split.
