Falls to Rockies

Pallante (5-7) took the loss Wednesday against the Rockies, allowing five runs on eight hits and two walks over five innings. He struck out five.

Analysis

It was another tough outing for Pallante, who gave up four runs in the second inning of an eventual 6-0 loss. The right-hander has now allowed 17 earned runs across just 15.2 innings in his last three starts. Pallante's ERA is up to 4.91 through 20 starts (110 innings) this season, to go along with a 1.37 WHIP and 72:36 K:BB.

Will have schedule adjusted

The Cardinals plan to adjust Pallante's pitching schedule following Wednesday's start in Colorado, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.

Analysis

Pallante is currently sitting at 105 innings, which puts him on pace to easily exceed last year's career-high 137.2 frames. It's not clear exactly how Pallante's schedule will be adjusted, but it could involve skipping a start. The right-hander is tentatively lined up to face the Marlins at home next week.

Dealt sixth loss

Pallante (5-6) allowed six runs (five earned) on nine hits and two walks while striking out three over 4.2 innings to take the loss Friday versus the Diamondbacks.

Analysis

Pallante has a pair of scoreless outings over his last five starts, but he's given up 15 runs (13 earned) across 28.2 innings in that span. This was his second poor start in a row, though he was able to keep the ball down this time after allowing two home runs in a seven-run disaster versus the Nationals prior to the All-Star break. Pallante has a mediocre 4.71 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and 67:34 K:BB through 105 innings over 19 starts this season. His next start is projected to be at Colorado, though that may not be as scary a matchup for a groundball-heavy pitcher like Pallante.
