With his seventh-inning shot off Kyle Finnegan, Perez became the Royals' all-time career home run leader, passing the mark of 317 set by Hall of Famer George Brett in 1993. The long ball was Perez's 15th of the season, including four in nine games since the All-Star break, However, on the year the 36-year-old backstop sports a .624 OPS that would be the lowest of his career.

Perez is up to 317 long balls for his career, tying George Brett for the all-time Royals record. Per Anne Rogers of MLB.com, he's the third active player to hold his team's franchise HR record, along with the Angels' Mike Trout and the Padres' Manny Machado. Perez could soon take sole possession of first place in the Kansas City record book -- he's gone yard three times in the last five games, and through 15 contests in July he's produced a .273/.349/.564 slash line with four doubles, four homers, seven runs and 13 RBI.

Perez went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run in a 4-3 victory over the Giants on Monday.

Perez accounted for half of the Royals' runs when he cranked a 440-foot, two-run homer to center field in the fourth inning. It was the second long ball in the past three games for Perez, who went deep just once across his final 19 contests of the first half. The veteran slugger is having a down year overall with a .617 OPS through 93 games, but he's still on pace for his 10th consecutive 20-homer campaign, excluding the pandemic-shortened 2020 season.
