Another hitless night
Devers batted second and went 0-for-3 with an RBI in Wednesday's 8-3 loss to the Mets.
Analisi
Devers was moved up the batting order behind Jarren Duran with the hope he'd see more fastballs and emerge from a slump. The theory was sound, but it didn't work out. Devers drove in a run on sacrifice fly -- his first RBI in seven games -- but went hitless for the fifth time in the last six contests (1-for-24, seven strikeouts).

Devers is slumping, and the Red Sox hope moving him up in the order, behind speedy leadoff batter Jarren Duran, will give him a lot of fastballs. Since returning from a three-game stint to rest his shoulders, Devers, who went 0-for-4 in Tuesday's loss to the Mets, is 1-for-21 (.048) over five games.

Devers worked through discomfort in his shoulders all season, and it may finally be taking its toll on him. "I'm not going through the best moment right now, but I'm certain I'm going to get my timing back," Devers told Ian Browne of MLB.com. Earlier in the season, rest served Devers well, but a three-game sabbatical at the end of Boston's recent homestand hasn't had a similar effect. He's 1-for-17 in four games since returning to the lineup.

Back Friday, as expected
Devers (shoulder) is batting cleanup as the designated hitter Friday against the Tigers, Mac Cerullo of the Boston Herald reports.
Analisi
Soreness in his shoulders kept Devers out of the lineup for the past three games, but he's back in action in a non-defensive capacity for Friday's series opener. The 27-year-old entered the absence in the midst of a 3-for-17 slump and has a .778 OPS across 22 games in August.

Planning return Friday
Devers (shoulders) is expected to return to the lineup Friday, MLB.com reports. "Raffy should DH [Friday], DH Saturday and play the field on Sunday," Red Sox manager Alex Cora said.
Analisi
Devers has been playing with discomfort in both of shoulders and sat out the last three games. The shoulders have been a recurring issue since he first tweaked his left shoulder while swinging in a game during spring training. He also hurt his right shoulder in July when he landed hard on it while diving for a grounder during a game in Colorado.
