Back from injured list
The Pirates reinstated Cruz (concussion) from the 7-day injured list Tuesday.
Analisi
The 26-year-old has been sidelined by the concussion for the past couple weeks but is back with the Pirates after a two-game rehab assignment with Double-A Altoona. Cruz will reclaim the starting job in center field and will look to get on track at the plate after batting .122 (5-for-41) in his first 11 games of August.

Will not be activated Monday
Pirates interim manager Don Kelly said that Cruz (concussion) will not be activated from the 7-day injured list prior to Monday's game in St. Louis, Colin Beazley of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
Analisi
Cruz played rehab games with Double-A Altoona on Saturday and Sunday and came out of it without any setbacks. Kelly did not offer a target date for Cruz's activation, saying only that the team is taking it day by day. The Pirates might have just wanted to give Cruz a day to rest after he played back-to-back rehab games and then traveled to meet the team in St. Louis. Cruz has been sidelined since mid-August.

Could be activated Monday
General manager Ben Cherington said Sunday that Cruz (concussion) is expected to rejoin the Pirates in St. Louis and could be activated prior to Monday's series opener versus the Cardinals, Colin Beazley of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
Analisi
Cruz was cleared to begin a rehab assignment Saturday with Double-A Altoona and made starts in center field and at designated hitter to close out the weekend, going 1-for-6 with one triple, two walks, one stolen base, two RBI and two runs between those contests. Assuming the Pirates' medical staff is satisfied with his health once he links back up with the team, Cruz could be cleared to re-enter the big-league lineup Monday while the Cardinals send righty Michael McGreevy to the hill. The Pirates may still look to shield the left-handed-hitting Cruz against southpaws, however; the 26-year-old is slashing an abysmal .110/.219/.190 with a 36.8 percent strikeout rate in 114 plate appearances versus same-handed pitching this season.

Beginning rehab assignment
Cruz (concussion) is slated to begin a minor-league rehab assignment with Double-A Altoona on Saturday, Colin Beazley of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
Analisi
Cruz suffered a concussion in a collision with teammate Jack Suwinski on Aug. 12 versus Milwaukee. Cruz was subsequently placed on the 7-day concussion IL, where he's remained since. It's not clear how long Cruz will be on his rehab assignment, but enough time has passed that he's eligible to be activated and return to the big club at any point.
