Dominant in rehab start
Pivetta (forearm) pitched 4.1 scoreless innings, allowing two hits and a walk while striking out seven batters in a rehab start with Triple-A El Paso on Sunday.

Pivetta took a step up in competition Sunday after he made the first two starts of his latest minor-league rehab assignment with Single-A Elsinore. The right-hander had no trouble against the Triple-A competition, tossing 44 of 64 total pitches for strikes over his scoreless outing. Pivetta has been sidelined since April 14 while recovering from a right flexor strain and a subsequent setback with right elbow tightness in early August. The 33-year-old may require another start with El Paso, but the team has yet to announce what the future holds for Pivetta.

Pivetta (forearm) struck out four and allowed three earned runs on four hits and one walk in three innings Tuesday in a rehab start with Single-A Lake Elsinore.

After a three-week hiatus following a setback with his right forearm, Pivetta resumed his minor-league rehab assignment and made a second start with Lake Elsinore. Though his command was lacking while he allowed three extra-base hits -- including two home runs -- on the night, Pivetta was at least able to pound the strike zone (35 strikes on 47 pitches). Pivetta will need at least one more rehab start to continue building up his pitch count before the Padres consider bringing him back from the 60-day injured list and inserting him into the rotation. The veteran righty has been on the shelf since April 14.

Resuming rehab assignment this week
Pivetta (forearm) will resume a rehab assignment with Single-A Lake Elsinore on Tuesday, Annie Heilbrunn of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
Analisi
Pivetta exited his first rehab appearance earlier this month when he felt tightness in his right elbow, but he's bounced back quickly and is ready to rejoin an affiliate for game action. The veteran right-hander has been out since mid-April due to a flexor strain, and given the length of his absence, he'll need multiple starts in the minors before rejoining the San Diego rotation.
