Could return this week
Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo said Monday that Marte (ankle) could return during the team's Sept. 3-8 road trip, Jesse Friedman of GoPHNX.com reports.
Analisi
Marte has been ramping up workouts in recent days and appears to be making significant progress. The second baseman has been sidelined since Aug. 19 with an ankle sprain but looks to be on track for activation either mid-week in San Francisco or this weekend in Houston.

Hitting in cages
Marte (ankle) began hitting in a batting cage Tuesday, Alex Weiner of ArizonaSports.com reports.

It appears to be the first time Marte has swung a bat since landing on the injured list Aug. 19 with an ankle sprain. Manager Torey Lovullo said Tuesday that the 30-year-old infielder is no longer receiving treatment, though it remains unclear how far away he is from a return.
