Atlanta will skip Elder's turn in the rotation this week, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports.

Elder had been lined up to make his next start Friday against the Mets, but Atlanta will give him extra time to rest after he displayed diminished velocity during his last outing Saturday. The right-hander has looked fatigued over his last three starts, coughing up 19 runs in 14 innings on 27 hits, including five homers. Atlanta's rotation is already missing multiple members, however, and depth is an issue. Hurston Waldrep, who was recalled from Triple-A Gwinnett this past weekend and threw 55 pitches over two innings of relief behind Reynaldo Lopez on Friday, could be an option to make a spot start and buy Elder an extra day of rest.

Elder (5-6) allowed five runs on five hits and a walk while striking out four over four innings to take the loss Saturday versus the Giants.

Elder gave up four of the runs via Rafael Devers long balls. This was Elder's third straight loss, and he has allowed 19 runs over 14 innings in that span. He's surrendered five homers during the current losing streak compared to just seven long balls across his first 14 starts, largely undoing what was once shaping up to be a strong first half of the campaign. The right-hander is now at a 4.01 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 83:30 K:BB through 98.2 innings over 17 starts.
