Basso came away with a no-decision in Wednesday's 5-3 win over the Cubs, giving up three runs on six hits and two walks over 4.2 innings. He struck out five.
Analisi
The rookie southpaw blanked Chicago through four innings before faltering in the fifth, getting the hook after 93 pitches (60 strikes). It's the first time in three big-league starts that Busso has failed to complete five frames, and only the second time in six appearances he's been charged with any earned runs at all. He'll take a 2.33 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 16:4 K:BB through 19.1 innings into his next outing, which lines up to come at home early next week against the Rangers.

Basso will make another turn through the rotation after he was summoned from Triple-A Las Vegas this past week to replace injured starter Osvaldo Bido (wrist). Through his first two MLB starts, Basso has struck out eight while allowing 10 baserunners over 11.1 scoreless innings, though his outings came against two of MLB's weaker offenses in the Tigers and White Sox. The road matchup with the Cubs will represent the 26-year-old lefty's toughest test to date.

The rookie southpaw seized the opportunity to secure his first big-league victory against the hapless White Sox with this tidy 77-pitch performance. Basso worked around five singles as the Chicago lineup couldn't manage to get a runner past second base. The 26-year-old has performed well over his first 14.2 innings, pitching to a 1.23 ERA, 2.97 FIP, 0.89 WHIP and 11:2 K:BB. If Basso sticks in the Oakland rotation, he will line up to make his next start against the Cubs on the road next week.
