The Orioles have now held the left-handed-hitting Holliday out of the lineup for all three of their matchups with left-handed starting pitchers since he returned from the injured list Monday. Holliday should eventually see more chances against southpaws once he's further removed from the hand injury that has kept him on the shelf for most of the season, but Jeremiah Jackson will get the nod at second base in the first game of the day while the Orioles face off against Framber Valdez.

Holliday went 2-for-3 with a two-run homer, one walk and two runs scored in Friday's 7-4 win over the Tigers.

After batting seventh and then eighth in the order in his first two games of the season Tuesday and Wednesday, Holliday was in the nine hole Friday. He logged his first two hits of the 2026 campaign, singling and scoring in the third inning before popping a two-run homer off Jack Flaherty in the fourth. Through three contests, Holliday is 2-for-7 at the plate with a 1:3 BB:K across eight plate appearances.

Holliday will be making his season debut for the Orioles after undergoing surgery in February to repair a fractured right hamate bone and then encountering multiple setbacks along the way. Per Andy Kostka of TheBanner.com, Holliday said he still feels a bit of soreness in his hand, but he's been told that it's not a concern and will eventually go away. Holliday was the Orioles' leadoff hitter for the bulk of last season, but he will slide into the No. 7 spot as the club eases him back into the mix. The 22-year-old slashed just .176/.291/.284 on his rehab assignment, though he reached base seven times and had one home run in his final four rehab games.

Holliday is not in the lineup for Monday's series opener in Tampa Bay, but he will be available off the bench and should be back in the starting lineup Tuesday. The young infielder encountered multiple setbacks in his rehab from right hamate surgery, but his most recent rehab stint went off without a hitch, clearing the way for his activation. Holliday played some third base in addition to second base on his rehab assignment, but while he could see some reps at the hot corner, the bulk of his playing time still figures to come at the keystone.
