Won't play Friday
Kornet (ankle) has been ruled out for Friday's game against the Cavaliers, Jeff McDonald of the San Antonio Express-News reports.
Analyse
Kornet has been on a tear defensively, racking up 14 blocks and three steals over his last six games. He's drawn nine straight starts in Victor Wembanyama's (calf) absence, but with both big men sidelined, Kelly Olynyk and Bismack Biyombo are likely going to play bigger roles. Jeremy Sochan could also play some small-ball five. Kornet's injury is labeled as soreness, so it appears minor, and his next chance to suit up will come Monday in New Orleans.

The Spurs have had a rather intensive travel schedule over the past week, playing four games in six nights, and all the miles are beginning to take a toll on the 30-year-old veteran. If Kornet does need to take a maintenance day Friday, that would open up some more minutes for Jeremy Sochan and Kelly Olynyk.

Kornet followed up his five-block performance Tuesday against the Grizzlies with another three rejections Wednesday, which included his block on Franz Wagner's layup attempt in the final second of the fourth quarter to seal the win for the Spurs. Kornet has started in the Spurs' last nine games in the absence of Victor Wembanyama (calf), and while the former's scoring output has been limited, he's provided fantasy value on the boards and as a shot blocker. Over that nine-game span, Kornet has averaged 6.6 points, 6.2 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 2.1 blocks over 26.7 minutes per game.

Kornet ended with four points (1-4 FG, 2-2 FT), six rebounds, four assists, five blocks and one steal across 28 minutes during Tuesday's 126-119 victory over the Grizzlies.
Analyse
The five rejections were a season high for Kornet, and just one off his regular-season career high. The veteran center has started eight straight games in place of Victor Wembanyama (calf), and while he's scored in double digits only twice, he's been a fairly consistent contributor on the glass and at the rim, averaging 6.8 points, 6.1 boards, 2.5 assists and 2.0 blocks in 26.5 minutes a contest.
