Gomez struck out one in a perfect ninth inning Wednesday to record his 20th save of the season in a 6-4 win over Atlanta.
Analyse
The right-hander remains perfect on the season in converting save chances as well, going 19-for-19 as the Twins' closer -- not bad for a pitcher cut loose by the Rays in early May after posting a 6.23 ERA in his first 17.1 innings of the year. Since the All-Star break, Gomez has delivered a 2.13 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 14:9 K:BB over 12.2 innings and 14 appearances.

Analyse
Gomez was called upon to protect a three-run lead in the ninth inning and surrendered a leadoff double to Michael Harris before retiring the next three Atlanta batters to close out the victory. The right-hander is now a perfect 19-for-19 in save opportunities this season and has converted a save in five of his last six appearances. Through 10.2 innings in the second half, Gomez has surrendered four runs (three earned) with a 13:9 K:BB.

Gomez picked up the save Monday against Atlanta. He allowed no hits and a walk with no strikeouts over a scoreless inning.

Entering with a two-run cushion, Gomez surrendered a leadoff walk but was able to retire the next three batters to secure the victory. The right-hander has consistently delivered when called upon in the ninth inning, converting all 18 of his save opportunities, 17 of which have come with the Twins since being acquired from the Rays in early May.
