Shelved with bruised forearm
The Padres placed Bergert (forearm) on the 15-day injured list Wednesday.
Analyse
Bergert was struck in the forearm by a comebacker in his start during Tuesday's 4-3 win over the Nationals and was forced to leave the game early. Though X-rays came back negative, Bergert will get at least two weeks off to heal up from the bruise on his forearm, which is likely still presenting some discomfort for him when he throws. The Padres recalled right-hander Sean Reynolds from Triple-A El Paso to take Bergert's spot on the 26-man active roster, and the team will eventually need to add a replacement in the rotation for Bergert during next week's series in Philadelphia.

X-rays negative
X-rays on Bergert's right forearm came back negative after he was struck by a comebacker in Tuesday's 4-3 win over the Nationals, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports.
Analyse
Bergert surrendered three earned runs in three innings before making an early exit in the fourth inning after he a 103-mile-per-hour line drive connected with his forearm. Although he managed to escape without suffering a serious injury, the right-hander said after the game that he was still quite sore, and there's no telling at this point if he'll be ready to make his next start. He's tentatively scheduled to take hill Monday against Philadelphia.

Steady in short outing
Bergert allowed three hits and a walk while striking out three over 4.2 scoreless innings in a no-decision versus the Dodgers on Thursday.
Analyse
Bergert came up an out short of qualifying for the win, exiting at 71 pitches (47 strikes). It appears to be simply a managerial decision, as Shohei Ohtani was up with runners on the corners and two outs when Bergert was lifted for Adrian Morejon. While it was a short start, Bergert's holding his own quite well in the majors, allowing just five runs over 20 innings across his first four starts. He's at a 1.88 ERA, 0.96 WHIP and 19:9 K:BB through 24 innings over eight appearances in total this season. The 25-year-old is projected to make his next start at home versus the Nationals.
