Two hits in return
Anthony went 2-for-4 with a double in Sunday's 16-1 loss to the Yankees.
Analyse
While there wasn't much to be excited about for Boston on Sunday, Anthony's return to the lineup, following a nearly four-month stint on the IL, was certainly a bright spot. Anthony, who led off for the Red Sox, is expected to serve as their primary DH down the stretch. He's slashing .239/.358/.336 with one homer, 12 runs scored, five RBI and two steals across 134 plate appearances this year.

Back from injured list
The Red Sox reinstated Anthony (finger) from the 60-day injured list Sunday, Tim Healey of The Boston Globe reports. He is batting leadoff as the designated hitter against the Yankees.
Analyse
Anthony has been sidelined since early May due to a partially torn tendon in his right ring finger, but he's been deemed ready to rejoin the Red Sox after posting a .967 OPS during an eight-game rehab assignment. The 22-year-old had yet to get on track in 30 contests prior to the injury, as he had a .229/.354/.321 slash line in his first 130 plate appearances of the season. Anthony should operate as Boston's primary designated hitter now that he's healthy but could also get some reps in the outfield.

Likely to be reinstated Sunday
Red Sox interim manager Chad Tracy said after Saturday's 9-2 loss to the Yankees that both Anthony (finger) and Trevor Story (sports hernia) will likely be reinstated from the injured list Sunday, Tim Healey of The Boston Globe reports.
Analyse
Anthony and Story are both joining the Red Sox in the Bronx ahead of Sunday's series finale. There are corresponding moves that need to be made, but it looks like Boston is getting significant upgrades right before the calendar turns to September for the final weeks of the regular season. Anthony figures to see the majority of his playing time as the Red Sox's designated hitter in the absence of Masataka Yoshida (hamstring), though Anthony should also see a few reps in the outfield.

Sunday return still possible
Anthony (finger) will play in another rehab game with Triple-A Worcester on Saturday, Tim Healey of The Boston Globe reports.
Analyse
Interim manager Chad Tracy is not shutting the door on Sunday returns for Anthony and Trevor Story (sports hernia), but he's also not committing to it. "It's just hard to say right now," Tracy said Saturday. Anthony has swung the bat well on his rehab assignment, batting .304 with a pair of homers, but he told NESN on Thursday night that he was still "getting close to where I want to be."

Unlikely to be activated Friday
Anthony (finger) was spotted Friday at Polar Park with Triple-A Worcester, Tommy Cassell of the Worcester Telegram & Gazette reports.
Analyse
The Red Sox had left open the possibility that Anthony could be activated from the 60-day injured list prior to Friday's game against the Yankees. However, Anthony's presence at Worcester suggests he will continue his rehab assignment for at least one more day. The Red Sox begin a homestand Monday, so perhaps the club is targeting that day for Anthony's return to the active roster. Out since early May with a partially torn tendon in his right ring finger, Anthony is 7-for-23 with two home runs in his first seven rehab contests.

Rehab moves to Triple-A
Anthony (finger) went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run for Triple-A Worcester on Tuesday.
Analyse
Anthony's rehab assignment moved south from Double-A Portland, and he played his first game in Triple-A. Just as Anthony homered in his first game in Portland, he did it again for Worcester. He played all nine innings in left field and looks ready to return. A recent report suggested he could be activated ahead of an important four-game series against the Yankees in New York beginning Friday. Boston interim manager Chad Tracy told Ian Browne of MLB.com earlier this week that he "wouldn't completely rule out" Anthony returning Friday.

Friday return in play
Anthony (finger) said Tuesday that he could be ready to return from the 60-day injured list Friday against the Yankees, Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com reports.
Analyse
It's unclear whether the Red Sox share the same sentiment, but Anthony appears to be nearing the end of his rehab assignment. The outfielder gone 3-for-11 with one home run and a 2:4 BB:K over his first four rehab contests with Double-A Portland and is moving his rehab to Triple-A Worcester this week. Anthony has been sidelined since early May with a partially torn tendon in his right ring finger.
