Takes loss in return
Soroka (8-5) allowed three runs on three hits and a walk while striking out four over four innings to take the loss Wednesday against the Royals.
Analyse
Soroka threw 34 of 58 pitches for strikes, but he was tagged for a three-run home run by Bobby Witt in the fifth inning, which was the difference in the game. The right-hander was more efficient than Zac Gallen, who started the game and threw 68 pitches (42 strikes). Soroka has a 3.53 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 95:25 K:BB across 99.1 innings this season. Arizona's pitching plans are not yet clear for next week, but considering his pitch count, it's possible the 29-year-old work in a piggyback again if the team opts not to expand its rotation to six starters.

Reinstated from injured list
The Diamondbacks activated Soroka (shoulder) from the 15-day injured list Wednesday.
Analyse
The 29-year-old will follow starter Zac Gallen in Kansas City on Wednesday in what's expected to be a piggyback appearance. Soroka did not make any rehab appearances, instead opting for a 59-pitch simulated game Friday. The right-hander could make some starts later this month, though the Diamondbacks have not divulged their specific plans for the righty.

Returning from IL on Wednesday
The Diamondbacks will reinstate Soroka (shoulder) from the 15-day injured list and have pitch Wednesday against the Royals in Kansas City, Jody Jackson of DBacks.tv reports.
Analyse
Soroka will return to Arizona's pitching staff after a near-minimum-length stay on the IL due to right shoulder inflammation. The 29-year-old built up to four innings and 59 pitches during a simulated game Friday, so because he's not completely stretched out, the Diamondbacks will have Soroka work in a piggyback arrangement with Zac Gallen (elbow), who will start Wednesday but will be in line for an abbreviated outing as he also returns from the IL. Soroka could resume working as a traditional starter for Arizona following Wednesday's outing.

Expected return this week
Soroka (shoulder) is expected to be activated from the 15-day injured list during Arizona's three-game series in Kansas City that begins Monday, MLB.com reports.
Analyse
Soroka came out of four-inning, 59-pitch simulated game Friday without issue and is expected to join the rotation early in the week. Arizona is also expected to get Corbin Burnes (elbow) and Zac Gallen (elbow) back from the 60-day IL during the series in Kansas City, bringing the rotation back to full strength for the first time this season. Given that both Soroka and Gallen maxed out at around 60 pitches during their sim game Friday and aren't fully stretched out, the two could team up to pitch the final game of the series with the Royals on Wednesday.
