Sheds splint, starts swinging
Chapman (hand) said Sunday that he's no longer wearing a splint and has resumed one-handed swinging in the batting cage, MLB.com reports.
Analyse
Chapman was placed on the 10-day injured list June 10 due to a right hand sprain, but he was cleared to resume baseball activities last week and ditched his splint Friday. Though Chapman is limited to taking one-handed swings for now, he could be ready to start taking full swings beginning Tuesday, per Justice delos Santos of The San Jose Mercury News. The third baseman remains unlikely to return before the end of June, though he's hopeful he'll return before the All-Star break, according to Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle. Casey Schmitt is expected to continue handling an everyday role at the hot corner until Chapman is activated.

Resumes light baseball activities
Chapman (hand) is expected to continue wearing his splint through the end of the week, but he is now participating in light conditioning and baseball activities, per MLB.com.
Analyse
Chapman was placed on the injured list June 10 due to sprained ligaments in his right hand. The third baseman saw a hand specialist, and his X-rays came back negative. However, he could still end up being unavailable for at least the rest of June, according to Buster Olney of ESPN. Casey Schmitt is expected to continue starting at third base while Chapman is sidelined.
