Lands on IL with hamstring issue
The Orioles placed Robert on the 10-day injured list Sunday due to left hamstring discomfort.

Robert's absence from the starting lineup for a second straight day seemed to hint that the veteran outfielder was nursing an injury, and the Orioles confirmed as much about an hour before first pitch. Since Robert's placement on the IL is retroactive to Saturday, he'll be eligible for activation Sept. 15, and manager Craig Albernaz hopes the outfielder will be ready to go at that time, per Matt Weyrich of The Baltimore Sun. After being claimed off waivers from the Mets on Aug. 31, Robert has gone 2-for-11 with a home run, a double, a walk, three RBI and two runs through his first three games with Baltimore.

It's the second consecutive day out of the lineup for Robert, and Sunday's absence is a bit eyebrow-raising given that the Orioles are facing a lefty starter (Payton Tolle). It's also worth noting that Baltimore called up outfielder Rece Hinds from Triple-A on Sunday, and he's starting in left field in Robert's stead. To this point, there's been no word that Robert is dealing with an injury, but there's also been no explanation yet about why the veteran outfielder is beginning on the bench two straight days.

Baltimore will assume the nearly $5 million remaining on Robert's contract with the hope that he can provide a lift in the outfield over the final month of the season. That $5 million figure includes a $2 million buyout that will need to be paid out during the offseason, assuming the Orioles choose not to exercise Robert's $20 million club option for 2027. While spending extended time on the shelf due to lumbar spine disc herniation, Robert had been limited to just 58 games for the Mets in 2026, slashing .223/.303/.399 with 10 home runs, two stolen bases, 24 runs and 23 RBI.
