Headed to injured list
Manager Craig Counsell confirmed after Friday's loss to the Guardians that Horton (forearm) will need to spend time on the injured list, Kyle Williams of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
Analyse
Horton was pulled from his start Friday after tweaking his forearm in the second inning. He's set to travel back to Chicago and undergo imaging in the next few days, at which point the details of his injury will be revealed, but the Cubs have already decided to hold him out for at least a couple of weeks. Ben Brown and Colin Rea are candidates to move from the bullpen and take Horton's place in the rotation, though no replacement has been named yet.

Leaves start with forearm injury
Horton was removed from Friday's start against the Guardians in the second inning due to right forearm discomfort.
Analyse
Horton's last pitch was clocked at 93.8 mph, which is about a two-mph dip from where he usually sits. The righty immediately called for the trainer after that offering before walking off the field and into the clubhouse. Horton yielded one walk over one-plus scoreless inning before being pulled. A stint on the injured list is a very real possibility, but the Cubs will send Horton for an MRI to determine the severity.

Quality start to open season
Horton (1-0) picked up the win Saturday, allowing two runs on four hits and a walk over 6.1 innings in a 10-2 rout of the Nationals. He struck out four.
Analyse
The only real mistake Horton made in the quality start came on a 95.2-mph fastball he grooved over the plate in the fourth inning, which James Wood deposited in the left-field bleachers at Wrigley Field. Horton is coming off a rookie campaign in which he delivered a 2.67 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 97:33 K:BB over his first 118 regular-season innings, and big things are expected from the 24-year-old right-hander in 2026. His next start lines up to come on the road next weekend in Cleveland.
