Elbow injury lingering
Red Sox interim manager Chad Tracy said in an interview on WEEI that Rutschman will not be in the lineup Tuesday versus the Mariners due to a lingering hyperextended right elbow injury, Tim Healey of The Boston Globe reports.
Analyse
Rutschman missed two games last week after hyperextending his elbow on a swing. He returned to action over the weekend but will now miss a second straight contest. Tracy noted Tuesday that Rutschman will likely have to deal with some discomfort in the elbow for the rest of the season, though it doesn't seem at this point that a trip to the injured list is under consideration. Rutschman is slashing only .170/.254/.245 in 15 games since joining the Red Sox.

Receiving rest Monday
Rutschman is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Mariners.
Analyse
After he had been recently managing an elbow injury, Rutschman started behind the plate in three of the Red Sox's four games against the Yankees over the weekend, going 3-for-12 with two runs during that stretch. Rutschman isn't believed to have suffered a setback with his elbow coming out of the series with New York, so he's presumably just getting a maintenance day Monday.

Back in lineup Friday
Rutschman (elbow) is back in the lineup for Boston's matchup with the Yankees on Friday.
Analyse
Rutschman sat out the final two games of the series against the Marlins but will start behind the plate for Friday's series opener. The 28-year-old has struggled since coming over to Boston, batting .146/.255/.244 with one homer and four RBI over 47 plate appearances. The switch hitter will bat fifth for the Red Sox as Connor Wong moves back to the bench Friday.

Held out again Wednesday
Rutschman (elbow) remains out of the lineup for Wednesday's game in Miami.
Analyse
Rutschman will miss a second straight start after he hyperextended his right elbow on a swing Monday. With a team off day Thursday and the Yankees on the docket this weekend, Rutschman will get some extra rest before likely returning to action Friday. Connor Wong will start behind the dish in the series finale Wednesday.
