Sitting for second time on weekend

O'Neill is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Twins.

Analysis

Though the right-handed-hitting O'Neill has now hit the bench for two of the Orioles' first three games while Baltimore has faced three right-handed starting pitchers, he still should continue to play at least semi-regularly versus righties. Despite not starting in Saturday's 4-1 win, O'Neill still ended up going 0-for-2 while playing the final three innings in right field after coming off the bench to replace Dylan Beavers.

Starting opener versus righty

O'Neill will start in right field and bat sixth in Thursday's opener versus the Twins.

Analysis

It's righty Joe Ryan on the bump for the Twins, but the right-handed-hitting O'Neill will nonetheless get the call in right field as he attempts to extend his major-league record Opening Day home run streak to seven. Dylan Beavers has been battling a knee/quad injury recently, which also could have played into Orioles manager Craig Albernaz's decision to start O'Neill. The two players are expected to share the right-field job this season.
