Strikes out twice in return
Vientos went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts in Friday's loss to the Pirates.
Analysis
Activated from the IL earlier in the day and seeing his first big-league action since June 2, Vientos got the start at DH and hit sixth but couldn't make a contribution at the plate. The 25-year-old has had a tough year even aside from the hamstring strain that cost him nearly a month of action, slashing .225/.292/.372 through 54 contests with six homers and 21 RBI. If he continues to struggle to regain his 2024 form, the Mets could begin to phase Vientos out of the 3B/DH mix.

Officially activated from IL
The Mets activated Vientos (hamstring) from the 10-day injured list Friday.
Analysis
Vientos is in the lineup for Friday's series opener in Pittsburgh, batting sixth against Pirates right-hander Mitch Keller. Vientos has been sidelined since June 2 and is slashing an underwhelming .230/.298/.380 with six home runs, 21 RBI and 22 runs scored across 208 plate appearances this season.

Returning Friday
Vientos (hamstring) said Thursday that he will be reinstated from the injured list Friday for the start of the Mets' series against Pittsburgh, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.
Analysis
Vientos rejoined the team in New York on Thursday after playing seven rehab games at Triple-A Syracuse, during which he went 5-for-28 with six RBI and four runs scored. He'll receive an extra day off to rest before rejoining the active roster, at which point he'll likely take over as the Mets' primary DH while making an occasional start in the infield.

Analysis
Vientos will rejoin the Mets on Thursday ahead of their series finale versus Atlanta. The team might activate him prior to the contest, or it could wait until Friday to reinstate Vientos after the infielder played rehab games with Triple-A Syracuse on Tuesday and Wednesday. Vientos has been sidelined since early June with a right hamstring strain.

The Mets had left open the possibility of Vientos rejoining them for their four-game series against Atlanta that begins Monday, but it now appears likely that the earliest he will return is Friday in Pittsburgh for the start of a road trip. Vientos has missed most of June with a right hamstring strain and has gone 2-for-17 with a double and 3:0 K:BB in four rehab games with Syracuse.
