X-rays negative after HBP

X-rays on Suarez's left hand came back negative after he was hit by a pitch during the All-Star Game, Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports.

Analysis

After taking a 96-mph fastball off his hand in the eighth inning, Suarez remained in the game for the remainder of regulation, but he wasn't able to participate as planned in the extra-inning swing-off. It doesn't seem like he suffered any structural damage due to the incident, however, and he'll now have a couple of days off to recover before the second half kicks off Friday. The 33-year-old third baseman slashed .250/.320/.569 with 31 homers before the break and is a candidate to be traded over the next couple of weeks before the deadline.

Goes yard twice in loss

Suarez went 2-for-3 with a walk, two solo home runs and a third run scored in Saturday's 10-5 loss to the Angels.

Analysis

The slugging third baseman took Yusei Kikuchi deep in the second and fourth inning, but those were the only runs the Arizona offense produced until the game was well out of hand. Suarez is up to 31 homers on the season in only 94 contests, already eclipsing the 30 long balls he launched in 2024, and the 33-year-old is on pace to top the career-best 49 home runs he delivered in 2019 with the Reds.

Goes deep in win

Suarez went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Wednesday's 8-2 win over the Padres.

Analysis

Suarez padded the Diamondbacks' early lead with a solo shot in the fourth inning, his 29th through 91 games. That puts him on the verge of a second straight 30-homer season in the desert. Suarez was recently added to the NL All-Star squad as a reserve and deservedly so. He's tied for fourth in MLB in home runs and RBI (77).
