Hitting bench Monday
Crawford is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Rangers.
Analysis
After making his return from the injured list Friday, Crawford proceeded to start at shortstop in all three of the Mariners' games against the Angels over the weekend while going 1-for-10 with a double, three walks and a run scored. At least until the Mariners are ready to promote top prospect Colt Emerson (foot) to the big leagues, Crawford should have a fairly firm hold on the everyday shortstop gig, though the veteran will get a breather as Seattle opens its series in Arlington. Leo Rivas will slide over to shortstop Monday after covering third base Saturday and Sunday while Brendan Donovan tended to a groin injury.

Hitless in return to lineup
Crawford went 0-for-3 with one walk and two strikeouts in his season debut Friday against the Angels.
Analysis
After missing the first week of the season with a shoulder issue, Crawford was activated from the injured list ahead of Friday's series opener against Los Angeles. Crawford walked in the seventh inning but was picked off first base by Reid Detmers. The Mariners have said Crawford remains the team's everyday shortstop despite signing top prospect Colt Emerson to an eight-year, $95 million extension earlier in the week.

Activated from IL
The Mariners reinstated Crawford (shoulder) from the 10-day injured list Thursday.
Analysis
Crawford dealt with shoulder problems throughout spring training, and he landed on the injured list at the start of the regular season after receiving a cortisone shot to treat the injury. After playing a full rehab game at Triple-A Tacoma on Tuesday without any issues, he'll now rejoin the active roster and slot in as Seattle's primary shortstop -- at least until the club is ready to promote top prospect Colt Emerson. Ryan Bliss was optioned to Tacoma in a corresponding move.

Begins rehab assignment
Crawford (shoulder) went 0-for-4 with a walk in his first rehab game with Triple-A Tacoma on Tuesday.
Analysis
Crawford played all nine innings at shortstop in his first game action in three weeks. The veteran infielder's rehab assignment happened to kick off on the same day the Mariners announced a contract extension with top shortstop prospect Colt Emerson, who played third base for the Rainiers next to Crawford on Tuesday. Emerson is expected to remain at Tacoma for now and Crawford could be activated at any time, but the former could eventually push aside the latter when he's ready to take over at shortstop with the big club.
