Rejoining rotation in Miami

Astros manager Joe Espada confirmed Sunday that Arrighetti (thumb) will be activated from the 60-day injured list to start either Tuesday or Wednesday in Miami, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports.

Analysis

Arrighetti is finally ready to rejoin the Houston rotation after he had been on the shelf since April 8 due to a right thumb fracture, which he sustained when he was struck by a flyball during batting practice. The right-hander kicked off a rehab assignment July 19, and over his three outings between Double-A Corpus Christi and Triple-A Sugar Land, Arrighetti turned in a 5.73 ERA, 1.45 WHIP and 11:5 K:BB in 11 innings. He got stretched out to 4.2 innings and 79 pitches in his final rehab outing with Sugar Land this past Thursday, so Arrighetti is unlikely to face any major workload restrictions in his return to the Astros.

Close to return

Astros manager Joe Espada said Friday that Arrighetti (thumb) "is in a position to make his next start at the major-league level," Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports.

Analysis

Arrighetti has made three rehab appearances, and despite being roughed up in his last outing Thursday with Triple-A Sugar Land, a return to the majors appears to be around the corner for the 25-year-old right-hander. With Arrighetti pitching Thursday and barring any setbacks, he could be back in the Astros' rotation as early as next week on the road against the Marlins. He made two starts for Houston before landing on the injured list in early April due to a right thumb fracture.

Roughed up in rehab start

Arrighetti (thumb) allowed six runs (five earned) on six hits and four walks while striking out five across 4.2 innings in his rehab start Thursday with Triple-A Sugar Land. He also hit a batter and threw a wild pitch.

Analysis

Arrighetti made his third rehab outing and his first at Triple-A, and though his results weren't great, he built up to 79 pitches (50 strikes). Assuming the right-hander comes out of his next bullpen session no worse for the wear, the Astros could activate him from the 60-day injured list to make a start during their series in Miami early next week. Arrighetti has been on the shelf since April 8 due to a right thumb fracture.
