Notches seventh save

Hodge earned the save in Friday's 3-1 win over Washington, striking out a pair in a perfect ninth inning.

Analysis

Hodge has been sharp since taking over the closer's role in Chicago, allowing just two runs over 11.2 innings while striking out 16. The 23-year-old right-hander now has seven saves with a 1.98 ERA, 0.93 WHIP and 50:19 K:BB across 41 innings this season.

Bounces back to secure save

Hodge worked around a hit and walk to pitch a clean ninth inning and record the save in Thursday's 7-6 win over the Nationals.

Analysis

Hodge made things interesting by putting the two runners on, but unlike his last appearance on Saturday when he blew a save, the righty shut the door this time around. While Hodge is only 6-for-9 in save opportunities, the rookie has been mostly excellent overall with a 2.03 ERA, 0.95 WHIP and 48 strikeouts across 40 innings this year. The 23-year-old should remain Chicago's closer for the final nine games of the regular season, and his outlook is bright for 2025 and beyond.

Blows save Saturday

Hodge allowed two runs on one hit and one walk while striking out two over one inning, taking a blown save in Saturday's 6-5 extra-inning loss to the Rockies.

Analysis

Hodge suffered his first blown save since ascending to the closer role, allowing a two-run home run to pinch hitter Sam Hilliard with two outs in the ninth inning. That blast ended a 15-inning scoreless streak for Hodge, who has emerged as one of the Cubs' most reliable relievers in the second half. He's now at a 2.08 ERA, 0.92 WHIP and 48:18 K:BB with five saves, nine holds and three blown saves over 39 innings this season. Hodge has been scored on in just five of his 35 appearances.
