Making return Tuesday
Severino (oblique) is scheduled to return from the 15-day injured list to start Tuesday's game against the Cardinals in St. Louis, Jason Burke of SI.com reports.
Analysis
The right-hander has been sidelined over three weeks due to an oblique strain, and he'll rejoin the Athletics rotation without a rehab assignment. Following the layoff, Severino could face some workload limitations in his first couple outings back in the majors. The right-hander was in strong form prior to the injury with a 3.13 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 22:6 K:BB over his last four starts.

Expected to return for road trip
Severino (oblique) is expected to return from the 15-day injured list during the Athletics' road trip that begins Monday in St. Louis, MLB.com reports.
Analysis
Severino has been on the shelf since Aug. 9 due to a left oblique strain, but his return appears close, and he seemingly won't require a rehab assignment prior to being activated. The right-hander was in strong form before landing on the shelf, posting a 2.93 ERA and 1.16 WHIP across 27.2 innings in his five most recent starts.

Slated for sim game
Severino (oblique) will throw a simulated game Wednesday, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.
Analysis
Severino continues to work his way back from a left oblique strain, which resulted in him being placed on the 15-day injured list Aug. 9. The veteran right-hander has apparently responded well to throwing bullpen sessions, so he'll take the next step forward in his recovery by facing hitters Wednesday. The Athletics will evaluate Severino following the sim game before determining whether he's ready to re-enter the big-league rotation next week, or if he'll first require a minor-league rehab start before being activated from the injured list. Severino posted a 6-11 record with a 4.82 ERA and 1.34 WHIP across 136.1 innings prior to landing on the IL.
