Sitting in Crawford's return
Rivas is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Rays.
Analysis
Rivas had started each of the last seven games at shortstop while batting .348 and getting on base at a .400 clip, but his playing time is likely to dwindle after top shortstop J.P. Crawford (finger) was reinstated from the 10-day injured list Wednesday. At least for the time being, Rivas will stick around as a backup middle infielder, but he could be a candidate to return to Triple-A Tacoma if the Mariners want to open up regular at-bats for him.

Garnering sixth straight start
Rivas will start at shortstop and bat ninth in Monday's game against the Giants.
Analysis
Rivas will stick in the lineup for the sixth game in a row after after producing seven hits and drawing a walk over his last five starts. He seems to have displaced Dylan Moore as the Mariners' preferred option at shortstop at the moment, but Rivas' run of regular playing time will likely come to an end soon. J.P. Crawford (finger) kicked off a rehab assignment Saturday and should be ready to return from the injured list later this week to reclaim everyday duties at shortstop.

Delivers in clutch Friday
Rivas went 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI singles in an extra-inning win over the Giants on Friday.
Analysis
Rivas played an integral part in locking in a victory for Dan Wilson in his managerial debut, rapping out his first RBI single in the eighth as part of a four-run, game-tying rally. Rivas then delivered in an even higher-leverage scenario two frames later, knocking in pinch runner Dylan Moore from third base in the 10th with the walk-off knock. The bottom-of-the-order shortstop has been contributing consistently despite his unfavorable lineup slotting, with Friday's performance his fourth consecutive two-hit effort. Rivas doesn't offer much in the way of power, but his recent knack for consistent contact has led to him generating a .288 average and .362 on-base percentage across his first 59 big-league plate appearances.
