Resting Thursday
Butler is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Tigers.
Analysis
The Athletics are wrapping up their series in Detroit with a day game after a night game and are facing a left-handed starting pitcher (Dietrich Enns), so manager Mark Kotsay likely viewed Thursday's contest as a good opportunity to give the left-handed-hitting Butler a breather. Brent Rooker will step in as the Athletics' starter in right field after Butler went 6-for-24 with a home run and a stolen base while playing in each of the last six games.

Drops from leadoff spot
Butler will start in right field and bat sixth Tuesday against the Tigers.
Analysis
The right fielder has batted atop the lineup in each of the past 25 games he's played in, but he'll move down to the No. 6 spot Tuesday versus Detroit's ace lefty Tarik Skubal. Butler was plenty productive during that 25-game stretch with eight doubles, four homers and a .297/.360/.495 slash line, so the move down the order is likely a temporary change due to the tough matchup.

Ejected from Saturday's game
Butler was ejected in the fifth inning of Saturday's game against the Guardians, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.
Analysis
Butler struck out looking in the fifth and was tossed from Saturday's game for arguing balls and strikes with the home plate umpire. He'll end the night having struck out in all three plate appearances. Denzel Clarke entered the game in center field, with JJ Bleday shifting to right.

Three hits in Friday's win
Butler went 3-for-4 with one RBI in Friday's 5-1 win over the Guardians.
Analysis
Butler supplied an RBI single with the bases loaded in the sixth inning. The outfielder has gone 9-for-30 (.300) with three extra-base hits and three RBI over his last seven games. For the season, he's up to a .264/.325/.459 slash line with 11 home runs, 32 RBI, 44 runs scored and 11 stolen bases. As a leadoff hitter, Butler's RBI chances are likely to remain limited, but he continues to offer a decent combination of power and speed with steady playing time in right field.
