Out for season

Manager Carlos Mendoza said Saturday that McNeil was diagnosed with a fractured wrist and will miss the remainder of the season, Will Sammon of The Athletic reports.

Analysis

McNeil had to leave Friday's game early after getting hit in the wrist by a pitch in the fifth inning, and the incident will ultimately end up putting an early end to his campaign. The 32-year-old will finish 2024 with a .238/.308/.384 slash line alongside 12 homers and 44 RBI across 472 plate appearances. Jose Iglesias figures to serve as New York's primary second baseman for the final month of the season.

Exits after HBP

McNeil exited Friday's game against the Reds after being hit in the wrist by a pitch, Tim Britton of The Athletic reports.

Analysis

McNeil was hit by a pitch in the fifth inning and remained in the game for the top of the sixth frame. However, Harrison Bader took McNeil's spot as a pinch hitter the next time through the order. After the game, the Mets announced that McNeil suffered a right wrist contusion and will undergo imaging Saturday.

Taking seat vs. lefty

McNeil is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the White Sox.

Analysis

The Mets will run out a right-handed-heavy lineup to counter White Sox southpaw Garrett Crochet in the series finale. McNeil will be joined on the bench by fellow left-handed hitters Jesse Winker and Brandon Nimmo.
