Likely to lose work with Betts back

Heyward is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Brewers.

Analysis

When healthy, Heyward has occupied the strong side of a platoon in right field throughout the season, but he looks set to move into a pure bench role with Mookie Betts (hand) making his return from the injured list Monday. Though Betts had started exclusively at shortstop and second base prior to landing on the shelf, he'll take on full-time duties in right field moving forward with the Dodgers soon expected to get Max Muncy (oblique), Tommy Edman (wrist) and Chris Taylor (groin) back as options in the infield. Even though he's mostly been shielded from same-handed pitching this season, the lefty-hitting Heyward has produced a weak .665 OPS over 191 plate appearances. With his playing time likely to be sparse moving forward and Heyward offering meager value defensively or as a baserunner at this stage of his career, he could be at risk of losing his spot on the roster once the Dodgers get some of their injured players back.

Taking seat against lefty

Heyward is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Pirates.

Analysis

The lefty-hitting Heyward started the previous three games but will hit the bench Sunday with southpaw Bailey Falter taking the mound for the Pirates. Andy Pages will shift to right field for the series finale while Kevin Kiermaier starts in center. Heyward will likely lose hold of his strong-side platoon role when Mookie Betts (hand) returns from the injured list later this month, as manager Dave Roberts has already said that Betts will be deployed primarily in right field upon his activation.

Taking seat against lefty

Heyward isn't in the Dodgers' lineup for Tuesday's game against the Phillies.

Analysis

The lefty-hitting Heyward will take a seat on the bench as the lefty-throwing Cristopher Sanchez starts on the bump for the Phillies. Andy Pages will move over to right field as a result, opening up center field for Kevin Kiermaier.
