Lands on IL with sprained ankle

The Guardians placed Arias on the 10-day injured list Tuesday with a left ankle sprain.

Analysis

Arias had to be carted off the field after suffering the injury in Sunday's loss to the Cardinals. While he managed to avoid any fractures, Arias has a sprain that will keep him on the sideline awhile. Brayan Rocchio has taken Arias' spot on the roster and could see starts at shortstop along with Daniel Schneemann while Arias is out.

MRI on tap

Arias (ankle) will undergo an MRI on Monday, MLB.com reports.

Analysis

Arias was removed from Sunday's 7-0 loss to the Cardinals in the third inning after attempting to make a sliding stop on a groundball in the hole. He was carted off the field with a splint on his left leg and was later diagnosed with a sprained ankle. The MRI should provide clarity on the extent of the injury, but if Arias is forced to miss time, Daniel Schneemann could step in as the Guardians' primary option at shortstop.

Suffers ankle sprain Sunday

Arias was diagnosed with a left ankle sprain after exiting in the third inning of Sunday's game against the Cardinals, Joe Noga of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports. He went 0-for-1 at the plate prior to exiting the contest.

Analysis

Arias appears to have avoided a worst-case scenario after he needed to be carted off the field when he sustained a painful-looking ankle injury while attempting to track down a groundball. X-rays on the ankle returned negative, but his sprain could still be significant enough to force him to the injured list.

Carted off field Sunday

Arias was removed from the field on a cart during the third inning of Sunday's game against the Cardinals due to an apparent left ankle injury, Chris Assenheimer of the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram reports.

Analysis

Arias was in pursuit of a Masyn Winn grounder when his cleat got stuck in the dirt, causing his lower leg to contort. The Guardians will send Arias for further testing before providing a diagnosis, but the infielder could be headed for a lengthy absence. Daniel Schneemann came off the bench to replace Arias at shortstop.

Belts homer in loss

Arias went 2-for-3 with a two-run home run and a walk Saturday in a loss to the Cardinals.

Analysis

All of Cleveland's runs Saturday came in the fourth inning, and Arias contributed a 427-foot, two-run blast in that frame. It was just his second homer over his past 60 games after Arias began the campaign with four long balls across his initial 16 contests. The infielder/outfielder set his major-league high of 10 home runs in 2023, which he established over 345 plate appearances and has a chance of topping this year.
