Moves into short-side platoon role

Moore is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Rays.

Analysis

Though he initially picked up most of the starts at shortstop after J.P. Crawford (finger) landed on the injured list July 23, Moore has since shifted into more of a utility role. He made both of his last two starts against left-handed pitching while seeing time in left field and at third base, and Moore has been held out of the lineup entirely in four consecutive matchups with right-handed pitchers. The Mariners seem content to roll with Leo Rivas their primary option at shortstop until Crawford is ready to return from the IL.

Goes wild on basepaths Sunday

Moore went 1-for-2 with two walks, three stolen bases and a run in a win over the Giants on Sunday.

Analysis

Moore put together a signature leadoff performance, serving as a consistent irritant for Giants pitchers throughout the afternoon while swiping a career-high three bases. Moore is an impressive 27-for-32 overall in steal attempts this season, and he's now reached safely in four straight games. Sunday marked only his fourth appearance atop the order this season, but given the results, he could conceivably get more run as the leadoff hitter the rest of the way under new manager Dan Wilson.

Records steal as pinch runner

Moore entered Friday's extra-inning victory over the Giants as a pinch runner in the bottom of the 10th inning, recording a stolen base and the game-winning run.

Analysis

Moore opened the 10th as the phantom runner and swiped third base, putting him in prime position to subsequently score the game-winning run on Leo Rivas' single. Moore has been mostly quiet at the plate of late -- he came into Friday mired in a 2-for-20 skid over his previous nine games -- but he's now up to a career-high 24 stolen bases on the season and has belted over half (31) of his 62 hits for extra bases.
