Reaches base four times
Santander went 2-for-2 with two walks in Saturday's 3-1 loss to Tampa Bay.
Analysis
Santander was not in the Blue Jays' starting lineup for two straight games due to a left hip issue, but he was back out in right field for Saturday's contest. He reached base safely in all four plate appearances but wasn't brought home to score as the Jays' offense was limited to just one run. Santander has struggled at the plate this season but has been more effective since the beginning of May, slashing .245/.344/.377 with two home runs and six RBI in 61 plate appearances.

Back in lineup Saturday
Santander (hip) is starting in right field and batting sixth against the Rays on Saturday.
Analysis
Santander was held out of the Blue Jays' lineup for the past two games due to a lingering left hip issue, but he pinch hit in the ninth inning of Friday's game and is back in right field for Saturday's bout. Santander has slashed .216/.298/.353 with two home runs, six RBI and a 29.8 percent strikeout rate across 57 plate appearances since the beginning of May.

Expected back Saturday
Manager John Schneider said Friday that he expects Santander (hip) to be back in the starting lineup Saturday, Keegan Matheson of MLB.com reports.
Analysis
Santander appeared as a pinch hitter during the ninth inning of Friday's game and drew a walk, which supports the idea that he's healthy enough to play. The 30-year-old hasn't started a game since injuring his hip Wednesday and is slashing .216/.286/.353 across 56 plate appearances since the start of May.

Remains out Friday
Santander (hip) remains out of the lineup for Friday's contest in Tampa Bay.
Analysis
Santander's left hip has bothered him off-and-on over the past week, and this will be his second straight day out of the lineup after he had to exit Wednesday's game versus the Padres. George Springer will be at designated hitter for the Blue Jays on Friday, while Jonatan Clase and Nathan Lukes will hold down the corner outfield spots.

Absent from Thursday's lineup
Santander (hip) is not in the lineup for Thursday's contest versus the Padres.
Analysis
Santander was lifted from Wednesday's 14-0 win after aggravating a left hip injury. The Blue Jays haven't indicated at this point whether Santander might require a trip to the 10-day injured list, but he will need at least a day or two of rest. Daulton Varsho will get a day in the designated-hitter spot, while Myles Straw will patrol center field for the Blue Jays in Thursday's series finale.

Pulled with hip inflammation
Santander was removed from Wednesday's game against the Padres due to left hip inflammation.
Analysis
Santander's hip has been giving him problems for about a week, and he seemingly aggravated the injury during Wednesday's contest. The Jays will take a closer look at him to determine the severity of his latest flare-up, but the team could consider placing him on the IL at this point to give him the time he needs to fully move past the hip issue. For now, however, Santander should be considered day-to-day.

Goes deep as No. 6 hitter
Santander went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run in Tuesday's 3-0 win over the Padres.
Analysis
After being dropped to sixth in Toronto's lineup Tuesday, Santander responded by smashing his sixth homer of the year. While he's batting just .190 (12-for-63) over his last 17 games, the switch-hitting slugger does have four homers and 10 RBI during this stretch. Santander has dealt with shoulder and hip issues in the early going, so Tuesday's showing was an encouraging sign as he searches for a rhythm at the plate going forward.
20 May 2025
Moved down to sixth in lineup
Santander is batting sixth for Tuesday's game against the Padres.
Analysis
It's the lowest Santander has batted in Toronto's lineup this season. After hitting third in each of his first 39 games with the Blue Jays, Santander was moved to fifth in the order over the weekend against the Tigers. Santander has continued to struggle and is now slashing a disappointing .182/.264/.308 with five home runs, 16 RBI, 12 runs scored, zero stolen bases and an 18:44 BB:K through 178 plate appearances for Toronto.
