On base three times

McCutchen went 1-for-2 with two walks, an RBI and a run scored Tuesday against the Dodgers.

Analysis

McCutchen kept a Pirates' rally going in the first inning with an RBI single and reached base for the sixth straight game. He hasn't hit for much power but has otherwise remained productive, recording 16 RBI and nine runs scored across 22 games since Aug. 1. McCutchen remains a near-everyday player, but he could lose some at-bats down the stretch if the Pirates hope to get extra playing time for the likes of Nick Yorke or Cam Devanney.

Perfect at plate Friday

McCutchen went 3-for-3 with two doubles, an RBI and a walk during Friday's 4-2 win over Boston.

Analysis

McCutchen gave the Pirates the lead in the sixth inning after his double to center field brought Tommy Pham home. Friday marked the fifth time this season that McCutchen recorded at least three hits and the third time he's reached base safely four times. He's gone 8-for-21 (.381) with four doubles, one home run and nine RBI over his last seven games.

Getting breather

McCutchen is absent from the lineup for Thursday's tilt in St. Louis.

Analysis

McCutchen will get a routine day off after starting in the previous two games and five of the last six contests. Bryan Reynolds will serve as the Pirates' designated hitter Thursday, while Jack Suwinski will man right field.
