Moves to paternity list

The Brewers placed Ashby on the paternity list Friday.

Analysis

The left-hander will step away from the team ahead of the final series before the All-Star break in order to be with his growing family. Ashby should be back with the Brewers by the start of the second half next week.

Moves past hand injury

Ashby (hand) retired one batter and allowed one earned run on one hit and two walks in his relief appearance during Wednesday's 3-2 extra-inning win over the Dodgers.

Analysis

Ashby's pitching hand was struck by a comebacker during his previous appearance in Monday's series opener with the Dodgers, but he avoided any significant damage and received the green light to pitch just two days later. Even though he wasn't at his best Wednesday, Ashby continues to hold down sterling ratios (1.66 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 22.1 K-BB%) in 21.2 innings out of the Milwaukee bullpen since returning in late May from a season-opening stint on the injured list.

X-rays return negative

X-rays on Ashby's left hand came back negative after being struck with a comebacker during Monday's appearance against the Dodgers, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.

Analysis

Ashby took a comebacker off his pitching hand during the seventh inning but managed to remain in the game. Further imaging revealed that he avoided a significant injury, though he should be considered day-to-day until the club has a chance to re-evaluate and clear the southpaw to return to the mound.
