Key Upcoming Dates

Gameplay Changes coming to Sorare: MLB 2024

We’re shaking up the game with some strategic enhancements to Sorare: MLB, designed to elevate your gameplay experience and enrich the strategic depth of the fantasy sports world. As we embark on this new chapter, we’re introducing a new competition across each scarcity level: Champion.

Introducing Champion Competitions

Following a series of successful competition iterations in both Football & NBA, we are introducing Champion competitions using the In-Season and Classic Season eligibility for the 2024 season. For Sorare: MLB, this will mean:

  • In-Season Cards are Pro Cards from the ongoing season (2024)
  • Classic Season Cards are Pro Cards from previous seasons (2022, 2023)

Champion competitions will require Managers to use some In-Season cards (2024). In Champion competitions, Managers can win Cash/ETH prizes and top card rewards. Managers will still be able to use their top Classic Season Cards in this competition.

To start the season, we will have lower In-Season Card requirements. Starting Game Week 10, we will transition to the full requirements. This provides Managers 8 weeks between the Marketplace opening and the full In-Season requirements taking effect, allowing time to adjust galleries and strategy.

Champion competitions are designed to be the pinnacle within their respective scarcities, offering the bulk of Cash/ETH prizes and top Card rewards. Additionally, Reward Boxes that include In-Season Pro Cards and other rewards (read more below) will be for the taking.

All Star, Pro, & American / National League Competitions Remain

All Star, Pro, and American / National League competitions will remain largely unchanged, but the rewards system will be adjusted to accommodate the new Champion competitions. For these competitions, Managers can use Pro Cards from ANY season, similar to prior seasons. In these competitions, Managers can win Reward Boxes, which will contain In-Season Cards and other rewards.

Special Competitions Are On Deck

In addition to Champion competitions, we’re introducing Special Competitions this season. These special competitions will have novel scoring formats and/or eligibility requirements (for example, Under 25), adding a new layer of strategy and fun.

We’ll run these competitions selectively throughout the season. Depending on the Game Week, rewards will be a mix of Cash/ETH and Reward Boxes. Special Competitions will also require some In-Season cards.

Stay tuned for when we’ll run the first iteration – until then let us know which types of Special formats you’d like to see us run!

Why are we making these changes?

Our goal has always been to provide an unmatched fantasy sports experience, one that’s not only fun and strategic but also sustainable and exciting for years to come. Our aim is to reignite the thrill synonymous with Sorare Game Weeks, guided by these core principles:

  • More Exciting Rewards: Triumph on the leaderboards will be met with bigger rewards, celebrating your mastery of the game
  • Dynamic Gameplay: The new competition structure is designed to extend gallery utility, with a net new competition and requiring new strategies with each new Special Competition
  • Crystal Clear Progression: With a clear core loop, Managers will know exactly how to ascend through the ranks

At Sorare, we hold our community in the highest regard, especially those who have been with us from the early days of Sorare: MLB. We want to assure you that the upcoming changes are not intended to diminish the importance or utility of 2022 & 2023 Pro Cards. Classic vs. In-Season requirements were thoughtfully designed to maintain utility across all seasons, enabling early adopters to use their existing galleries to win new Cards that will help them climb the leaderboards in our new Champion competitions. Our commitment is to enhance the game while preserving the essence of what made it special for our earliest supporters.

Changes to Pro Card Max Mint Counts

This season brings a shift in Sorare: MLB Pro Card mint counts to align with Football & NBA. We are adjusting the maximum mint counts for Pro Cards – here’s what’s changing:

  • Limited Cards will now have a cap of 1,000 mints per player, per season, a reduction from the previous 5,000
  • Rare Cards will see their mint count reduced to 100 per player, per season, down from 1,000.
  • Super Rare Cards will lower to 10 mints per player, per season, compared to the previous 100.
  • Unique Cards will maintain their one-of-a-kind status with just 1 mint per player, per season, unchanged from before.

Common Cards will continue to be available in unlimited quantities throughout the season, serving as the entry for gameplay without the ability to be bought, sold, or traded among Managers.

The rationale behind these changes is twofold. Firstly, by reducing the max mint counts, we aim to maintain the premium nature of our Pro Cards, making each one a more exclusive and desirable asset. Secondly, this adjustment brings clarity and predictability to our minting process, allowing Managers to better strategize with a clear understanding of Card availability.

What this means for Rewards

Increased Cash/ETH Rewards

Revamped rewards is a cornerstone of our commitment to enhancing the gameplay experience for all Managers.

In anticipation of the upcoming season, we are excited to announce a significant increase in Cash/ETH Rewards, more than tripling the amount from last season to a total of at least $1,000,000 for the season.

As part of our continued push around sustainability, we’re fine-tuning our approach to Cash/ETH Rewards. Starting now, we’ll be channeling these rewards through Champion & Special Competitions. We feel this simplifies the utility cycle of Pro Cards:

  • Play with Classic Season cards to win In-Season Cards (plus other prizes)
  • Play with primarily In-Season Cards to win cash

We’ll review our Cash/ETH prize pools continuously throughout the season. Ahead of the Marketplace opening next week, we’ll share a detailed breakdown of rewards across competitions.

Reward Boxes & Primary Market Credits

We’re introducing the Reward Box, aimed at diversifying the rewards experience. Initially, these boxes will contain Pro Cards and Primary Market Credits, offering multiple ways to enrich your gallery.

Each type of Reward Box will come with its own set of odds to pull its contents, creating the chance for more Managers to snag that coveted top-tier Pro Card. The odds will be transparent and disclosed to the users before each Game Week starts.

Last season, we rewarded over 60,000 Pro Cards; the introduction of Reward Boxes doesn’t change our commitment to consistently rewarding Pro Cards that can be collected, played in the game or traded on the Marketplace

Primary Market Credits offer a way for Managers to enhance their galleries by allowing the subsidized purchase of cards through Auctions or Instant Buy.

Primary Market Credits will allow a maximum discount of 25%, with a two-week holding period for any acquired Card. These credits accumulate, meaning the more rewards you win, the more credits you gather to be used towards your next Pro Card purchase.

Longer term, our vision extends to expanding the Reward Box contents to include more in-game items and other exciting prizes. As we adjust to the new mint counts, our focus is on ensuring that rewards remain meaningful and reflective of each Manager’s game week performance.

A Note on Rivals for Sorare: MLB

Building on the enthusiasm and engagement generated by the successful introduction of Rivals in Football, Sorare is thrilled by the potential this new, head-to-head, and social way to play brings to the table. Our commitment to enriching the Sorare: MLB experience has never been stronger. However, our current focus is on delivering an exceptional Sorare Pro experience across all sports, including intensive efforts to enhance Sorare NBA throughout the season and meticulous preparations for the upcoming MLB Pro launch. Given these priorities, Rivals will not be immediately available for Sorare: MLB.

We are dedicated to expanding the Rivals game mode to encompass all sports within the Sorare universe, ensuring every fan has the opportunity to enjoy this innovative and engaging gameplay. Your patience and support fuel our progress, and we’re excited about what the future holds for Sorare and our passionate community of sports fans.

What comes next – upcoming and future updates

Over the next two weeks, we’ll continue to unveil updates that provide key details to get you ready for Sorare: MLB 2024. In the next week, we’ll pull back the curtain on this year’s Pro Cards. We’ll follow that with an in-depth exploration of the revamped rewards profile before 2024 Pro Cards launch, ensuring you have all the insights needed to start scouting 2024 Pro Cards. After the Marketplace opens, we’ll give you an overview of many eagerly awaited features, such as Instant Buy, Cash Wallet, Manager ID, and our Club Shop plans.

We are also committing to making any material changes to Sorare: MLB Pro gameplay in only two windows each season. The first window is when we launch a new season, and the second is after All-Star Weekend in mid-July. This allows us to refine and enhance the game based on the season’s progress and feedback from our community in a minimally disruptive way. This does not mean that changes will happen in mid-July. Our goal in communicating this commitment is to provide clarity to our managers as they approach their strategic preparation for the upcoming 2024 season.
