Gasper started the previous eight contests and will receive a day off after batting .231 (6-for-26) with a double, three homers and a 7:6 BB:K during that span. Willson Contreras (hamstring) could be back from the injured list as soon as Friday, but the Red Sox may try to keep Gasper in the lineup however they can given his recent offensive production. Nick Sogard will pick up a start at first base Tuesday while Andruw Monasterio handles the keystone.

Gasper's solo homer off Shane Baz in the first inning proved to be the only run scored in Friday's affair. Gasper has made the most of his opportunities in the big leagues, and the Red Sox will lean on him now with Willson Contreras (hamstring) on the 10-day injured list. Since his return to the majors in mid-August, Gasper has gone 17-for-45 (.378) with eight home runs, 15 RBI and 11 runs scored. If he continues his strong play at the plate, the Red Sox may have to make some tough roster decisions when one of Contreras, Curtis Mead (wrist) or Masataka Yoshida (hamstring) returns from the IL.

Gasper continued an unexpected power surge that began with his return to the majors Aug. 17 -- he's gone 15-for-38 (.395) with four doubles, seven homers and 14 RBI over 14 games. The versatile Gasper made a third consecutive start at first base in place of the injured Willson Contreras, and the Red Sox will find a spot for him somewhere if he continues to hit like this.
