Sharp in return
Senga took a no-decision after throwing four innings, allowing no runs on four hits and two walks while striking out four, during Friday's 8-3 win over the Royals.
Analiz
Senga made his first big-league start since June 12, and since he made only one rehab start, he threw only four innings and 67 pitches. Regardless, the 32-year-old looked sharp in his return, notching his seventh shutout appearance in 14 starts this season, and he has still yet to allow more than three runs in a game. The right-hander has been one of the best pitchers in the game when he's been healthy, sporting a 1.39 ERA in 77.2 innings pitched.

Reinstated for Friday's start
The Mets activated Senga (hamstring) from the 15-day injured list to start Friday's game in Kansas City.
Analiz
The right-hander has been sidelined nearly a month due to a right hamstring strain, but he's ready to rejoin New York's rotation after giving up three earned runs over 3.2 frames in his lone rehab outing. Senga threw 68 pitches in that appearance, so he's likely to face some light workload limitations in his first start back with the Mets. He'd been dominant in 2025 prior to the injury with a 1.47 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 70:31 K:BB across 73.2 innings.

Tracking toward Friday's start
Senga (hamstring) is scheduled to throw a bullpen session Wednesday and tentatively lines up to return from the 15-day injured list to start Friday's series opener in Kansas City, Mike Puma of the New York Post reports.
Analiz
The right-hander is one of two starters the Mets anticipate returning from the IL this weekend, as Sean Manaea (elbow/oblique) is on track to be activated from the 60-day IL to pitch in Sunday's series finale if he makes it out of a rehab start Tuesday without issue. Senga made a lone rehab start this past Saturday with Double-A Binghamton, covering 3.2 innings while striking out four and allowing four runs (three earned) on six hits and two walks. Despite the mediocre results, the Mets were more encouraged by the fact that Senga seemingly came out of the rehab start healthy while also tossing 68 pitches. Assuming he's ready to rejoin the rotation Friday, Senga would likely be operating with a light workload restriction in what would be his first start with the big club since June 12.

Poised to return next weekend
Mets manager Carlos Mendoza said Sunday that Senga (hamstring) is likely to return from the 15-day injured list next weekend and is expected to start either Friday or Saturday in Kansas City, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports. "When he went down [with a right hamstring strain], in my head it was more like after the All-Star break," Mendoza said. "For him to be in play for us now before we go into the All-Star break, it's huge for us."
Analiz
Before confirming which day Senga will return from the IL, the Mets will wait and see how he bounces back from the rehab start he made Saturday for Double-A Binghamton. The right-hander was charged with four runs (three earned) on six hits and two walks while striking out four over 3.2 innings, but the fact that he covered 68 pitches and experienced no complications with his hamstring is of greater importance than his results. Assuming he's given the green light to pitch this weekend, Senga shouldn't be operating with any significant restrictions in what would be his first start with the big club since June 12, though the Mets probably won't overextend him with the All-Star break looming.
