Drawing another start Monday
Sears is slated to start Monday's game against the Mariners in Seattle, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
Analiz
The Padres will award Sears a second turn through the rotation after he delivered a quality start upon being called up from Triple-A El Paso last Wednesday, when he picked up a win while limiting the Giants to one run over six innings. The southpaw may not be in line for any additional starts beyond Monday regardless of how he performs against the Mariners, as Michael King (knee) could be ready to return from the 15-day injured list to replace him in the rotation by the end of the week.

Cruises to win after call-up
Sears (8-10) earned the victory over San Francisco on Wednesday, allowing one run on four hits and one walk while striking out two batters over six innings.
Analiz
Sears struggled in his first start with San Diego on Aug. 4 and was subsequently optioned to the minors. The southpaw was called up Wednesday to face the Giants and showed vast improvement, logging a quality start while holding San Francisco to just one run. Sears wasn't exactly overpowering -- he notched just five whiffs and two strikeouts -- but he got the job done to help the Padres pick up a critical game in the NL West standings. With that said, Michael King (knee) may be able to return after a minimum-length stay on the IL, so it's unclear if Sears will stick in the rotation, move to the bullpen or eventually go back to Triple-A.

Called up ahead of start
The Padres recalled Sears from Triple-A El Paso ahead of his scheduled start Wednesday against the Giants at Petco Park.
Analiz
Sears was optioned to El Paso after getting tagged for five earned runs in five innings during his team debut Aug. 4 in Arizona following his acquisition at the trade deadline, but he'll get another look as the Padres' No. 5 starter. After Randy Vasquez struggled during a bulk-relief appearance last Friday versus the Dodgers before being sent back to El Paso, Sears will get the next chance to fill the vacancy in the rotation that was created earlier this month when Michael King (knee) landed on the injured list. King is hopeful for a minimum-length stay on the shelf, so Sears may not be guaranteed any starts beyond Wednesday.
