Begins rehab with bang
Seager (back) started at shortstop and went 1-for-2 with a walk and a solo home run for Double-A Frisco on Tuesday.

Seager began a rehab assignment with Frisco and gave the RoughRiders a 2-1 lead with a solo homer in the fifth inning. His night was over after five innings in the field, which is normal in a player's first rehab game. The back didn't appear to be an issue for Seager, who had to range far to his right to scoop a grounder and get the final out of the third inning, Theo DeRosa of MLB.com reports. Seager is expected to play at least one more game for Frisco, after which he could be activated.

The veteran shortstop progressed to "higher-volume" live batting practice the past few days, clearing the way for him to see his first game action in nearly a month due to back inflammation. Seager may not need much action in the minors before rejoining the Rangers, so he could be back from the injured list before the end of the week.

Seager (back) said that he completed a "higher-volume" live batting practice session Sunday and will repeat the activity again Monday before likely heading out on a rehab assignment, Matthew Postins of SI.com reports.

Seager received the equivalent of about four at-bats against live pitching Friday, but he said that he wants to take live BP on consecutive days before moving on to the final step in his recovery from lower back inflammation, which sent him to the injured list July 1. Assuming all goes well Monday, Seager will report to one of the Rangers' affiliates for game action. The veteran shortstop may need just one game on the farm before being cleared to return from the IL, perhaps as soon as Friday's series opener in Houston.

Seager landed on the 10-day injured list July 1 due to lower-back inflammation, but he's steadily progressing in his recovery. He's expected to log at least one more live batting practice before the Rangers' medical staff deliberates on a rehab assignment for the veteran shortstop. Seager had a .666 OPS with one steal, 10 home runs and 25 RBI across 219 plate appearances prior to his injury.
